Many couples ask if an engagement session is necessary. My answer is consistent: It’s not necessary, but it definitely helps to see how each side works. I get a sense of how a couple interacts (who’s the goofy one, are they affectionate…), and they get a chance to see how I handle the photography. I feel this eliminates the feeling out process on their wedding day. With Katie and Ross, their engagement session was the first time I had a chance to meet face-to-face. It was enjoyable to learn of how they met, the details of their engagement and what’s going on in thier lives as they plan their wedding. I’ve shot at Wissahickon park a few times, and it’s nice. Huge. But, this was my favorite time shooting there, as we stumbled upon an area I didn’t expect. It’s refreshing to find something new in a place you think you know so well. Katie was a bit nervous, understandably, but once we started she was the perfect subject. Ross was cool, relaxed and sweet. I had a blast with them, but we all knew that after our find near the creek-we had what we came for, photographically. It was a rewarding session, getting insight into how they work and I’m super excited to document their wedding.
