For some time, I had a week blocked off in late August for vacation. That week was quickly approaching and my plans were only vague ideas. I simply knew I wanted to go somewhere with no schedule or agenda. Some place new would also be a plus. So, on Tuesday I booked my flight, Wednesday my hotel and Saturday I took off for Seattle. I got lucky with my hotel selection, as far as location and view of the city. The weather was perfect and all of the city’s weekend activities were conveniently local to my hotel. Within the first few hours of my arrival I had accomplished my vacation mission: to relax, avoid scheduling and enjoying the streets with my camera. The remaining time was bonus. I fell in love with Seattle’s architecture. I found some great spots to eat, spent a few hours in Pike’s Place market and even wandered in to Seattle’s Hempfest. After the weekend, I took a train to Portland to visit my cousin and husband. I’ve been anxious to visit Portland, since I’ve only heard “Jeff, you would love it!” from all familiar with the city. Anna and David were gracious hosts and allowed the balance of spending time with them and spending time exploring on my own. The city, undoubtably, is hip. Great food, drinks, arcades, movie theaters, book stores…. I can definitely see the appeal. I was fortunate enough to get perfect weather in Portland, as well. The vacation was quick, but completely satisfying. Here are some images from both cities:
