Waayy back in 2001 & 2002 I spent a lot of the time traveling parts of the U.S. and bits of the U.K. and Europe. At the time I was shooting on a Canon Rebel and eventually my beloved Nikon F100. I often used slide film and cross-processed in order to get the vibrant colors and odd effect. Photography was strictly a hobby at the time, but a burning passion.
The Green Tortoise is a bus trip that offers many route options throughout the U.S.. The trip I ventured on was the cross-country from NY to SF. It’s definitely a unique way to see various parts of the country with people from all over the world. Our route brought us through the Badlands of North Dakota, Colorado, Utah (Bryce, Zion and Arches National Parks), Las Vegas… We then spent 10 days in San Fran and flew back. The style of trip isn’t for everyone, but I’m really happy to have done it.
A few days after September 11, 2001 I spent 3 months in the U.K. and Europe. I went through dozens of rolls of film and I didn’t process any of it until I returned home. Of course, it took me a little while to make enough $ to develop and print all of the rolls! I still have all of these images printed as 4×6’s in albums. I still have yet to transfer all of the images into digital media. For some reason, over the past 10 years, I did scan a few of these images in from a crappy little scanner on my PC straight from the 4×6 print. Needless to say, the quality isn’t very good. Being inspired recently by the Lomography movement and my Diana F camera I wanted to revisit some of these images and all of their imperfections. After all, this was the start of a passion that I have since turned into a full-time profession. So, here are a few of those early images from some of my travels. If I ever get a solid film scanner I’ll gladly post the rest! Enjoy & thanks for taking the time.

Love this series dude, that sounds like an incredible trip through. Taking the bus across country certainly had to be a once in a lifetime experience. Thanks for sharing the pics, I really dig the couple on the bus listening to tunes – has a great feel to it.
